Opening night for the 6 Squared Event starts at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, with live entertainment and refreshments at the Brookings Arts Council, 524 Fourth St. The art sale will start at 5 p.m. with a Buyer's Choice raffle ticket drawing providing exclusive first option purchasing abilities for the lucky 30 ticket holders whose numbers are drawn. Buyer's Choice tickets are $5 per ticket. Hundreds of donated pieces of artwork will be exhibited and for sale to the public for $20 each in the BAC gallery. Artist names will be revealed to the buyer at the time of purchase.

A turkey dinner will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at the First United Methodist Church Community Life Center, 625 Fifth St., Brookings. Cost is $10 for 12-year-olds to adults and $3 for kids 4-11 years old. The menu includes turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet corn, pickled beets, cranberry salad, dinner rolls, assorted pies, and coffee and juice. Brookings Community Sing's first gathering starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the Brookings Arts Council, 524 Fourth St. Come as you are and bring a friend. All ages and experience levels welcome. There's no admission fee and no need to be able to read music – just bring your voice, in whatever shape it's in. The group won't be practicing to perform but singing for enjoyment, for consolation, for celebration. They'll build community through song and lean on each other and learn together.
